Synopsis:

"Hugely inspirational!" - Tess Taylor, President, National Association of Record Industry Professionals

Beautiful Sorrow is the almost unbelievable true life story of Jenn London. Her memoir touches on a multitude of topics from overcoming childhood obesity, immense family tragedy and her brother's suicide to pursuing a career in music and her active involvement in animal welfare. Her optimism, determination and drive only begin to scratch the surface of this dramatic, yet humorously written, inspiring journey towards finding peace and happiness.

Review

I received a copy of Beautiful Sorrow in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I immediately accepted a copy of Beautiful Sorrow by Jenn London after I read the synopsis. I could relate highly with some of the struggles London went through, including family tragedies and the suicide of a family member. Beautiful Sorrow is aptly named, and is an absolutely beautiful memoir detailing not only London's struggles, but her triumphs as well. I especially appreciate a quote that she highlights at the beginning of her memoir. The quote reads as follows:

"I am defined by me, and only me." - J. London

I highly identified with the struggles that Jenn London went through, with my own father committing suicide when i was just a child. Later in life I also lost an aunt to the same end. In life we take hits after hits, and it can feel as if our struggles define us, but in reality only our actions define us. How do we rise from the ashes of our past? Jenn London does so as a poet, musician and writer. I gave this book five stars, and I would have given it more if we had a higher rating scale. It is beautifully and honestly written, and I commend Jenn London for being so brave.
